I think this comment is in good fun, but leaving this here for folks that haven't considered it before: There are lots of neighborhoods that end up hosting all kinds of different families. Whether they live in that neighborhood or visit, some families just cannot afford a costume. These kids (and parents) still want the joy of going door-to-door for Halloween, enjoying the community and the season. Every person that comes to my door gets candy. I don't know their circumstances, I'm just damn happy someone showed up to see my decorations! Extra candy for when you tell me how cool my decorations are.

Canadian institutuons would be made to take unfavorable deals with us partners so that a breakup would be more painful. Simultaneously they would encourage discontent in the population so we turn on each other instead of the outside threat. They don't need to invade to take over. From what I've heard, that's exactly what happened. The showrunner saw that some people on the internet predicted a major plot point, so they rewrote a bunch of it. Which is such a stupid thing for a writer to do. Who cares if some people predicted it as long as it's still a good story?
